Captiva is known for its quiet, relaxed, tropical vibe where the beach takes center stage. Island residents are a close-knit, fun-loving group who welcome visitors to participate in island events.
The weekly Captiva Farmers Market is every Tuesday morning, November through April. Choose from a wide variety of fresh produce, prepared foods and smoothies, seafood, meats, cheeses, organic items, flowers and plants, candles and soaps, and more.
If you hear music and laughter, look around, find the Marching Mullet Band Parade and join in. You never know when a parade may pop up, as there is no schedule. The processions consist of musicians, residents and visitors, and are in honor of veterans. It’s a fun impromptu event that was the brainchild of Captiva’s own Jensen brothers.
The holiday season is special on the island. Captiva Holiday Village starts Thanksgiving weekend and runs through New Year’s Day. Businesses go all out with holiday lights and decorations, providing the backdrop for special events that bring together residents and visitors. Holiday celebrations begin with the Christmas Tree Lighting, always the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. Captiva’s Luminary Festival and Golf Cart Parade are the first Saturday evening in December. Streets and businesses are lit with luminaries and island businesses stay open late, offering treats and specials. Then join residents and visitors at Chapel by the Sea for the Christmas Eve service and caroling.
